J. Alex Lang was a high school student in the 1990s when he first saw an ad in Railpace Newsmagazine inviting railfans to stay at The Station Inn. Making his first visit in October 1994, Alex returned many times over the ensuing decades. Alex always loved the combination of busy, mountain railroading with the Inn’s comfortable, relaxing “home base” and welcoming staff. Alex worked with former owner Tom Davis beginning in 2000, managing The Inn’s website and helping Tom keep pace with technology. After introducing future wife Leah to The Inn in 2008, she immediately came to adore the serenity of this mountain retreat and the enigmatic innkeeper’s warm wisdom and dry wit. Over the years, the Langs developed a friendship with Tom, sharing holidays together, and even having their wedding reception at the Inn in 2010.
Tom Davis and his Inn have always held a special significance for Alex and Leah. The Langs would stop any chance they’d get to visit for the weekend or sit on the porch for a chat with Tom. The Langs attribute many close friendships, career successes, and lifelong memories to The Inn and its vast community, and recognize its importance to so many in the railroad community. Alex and Leah are honored to carry forward Tom Davis’s beloved B&B, and look forward to many years of camaraderie in the porch, common room, and someday (maybe) – the basement bar.
Alex and Leah manage the Inn’s business affairs from their home near Pittsburgh, keeping busy with 4 kids and careers in information technology; Alex spending the last 8 years managing IT for shortline railroads in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
